Dimity Taylor lives with her family less than 2 km from the Gullen Range Wind Farm. Dimity's neighbor isn't Mrs Mangles—it's a wind farm. Dimity loves to watch the turbines at sundown, relaxing with her family, enjoying the view. Powering more than 70,000 homes, the wind farm is also a cherished part of the community who are reaping the benefits now. Showing up as a really good neighbour, grants from the wind farm support local favorites, like the pony club, Crookwell Devils Junior Rugby League and community hall, where bookclubs and a community space bring people together. As a physio and health worker, she has no worries living near a wind farm. According to Dimity, nor do the sheep, the horse or the dog mind living near the turbines. While Dimity is deeply concerned about the health impacts of climate change, she says the wind turbines calm her, knowing they are creating a safer, more secure, healthier + affordable renewable energy future for her kids and everyone in the region.

For birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, Mother’s Day, Father's Day, give something that heals rather than harms! Google “native nursery near me” + ask for local natives, indigenous to your area. Natives save time, money + resources.(they need little maintenance, pesticides, or water.) 3: Go wild! Build up biodiversity in our homes, backyards and balconies: - Provide nest boxes or water bowls for thirsty birds; - Host an ‘air bee n bee’ for bees to shelter in; - Plant local native grasses or flowering shrubs, providing a sanctuary for ‘the little things’; - Keep cats inside making tiktok videos, instead of outside terrorizing local wildlife; - Leave old stumps, trees and logs (providing wildlife a place to nest, rest, eat and grow); - Share your biodiversity wins on the socials. It regulates our climate + absorbs huge amounts of carbon from the atmosphere.  Seeing first hand the impact of our actions on biodiversity in the bay, Sheree wants us to aim for zero waste, avoid single-use plastics + Recycle Right. Only 9% of all plastic ever made has been recycled. We need to dramatically reduce the amount we use. Not only is the plastic ending up in our oceans and environment. It’s ending up in US.  Yup. On average, we ingest about one credit card's worth of plastic a week. Recycle right + precious resources can be made into something new. Recycle wrong + we waste the resources that made the packaging in the first place. Recycle Right with 'four bins'. 1: RECYCLING = paper/cardboard. glass. tin, hard plastics (milk cartons etc.) Keep these empty, dry, clean + UNBAGGED (no plastic bags ever in recycle)  2: FOOD SCRAPS  Do everything to keep food scraps from the bin. Some councils accept food scraps in the food + garden organics (FOGO) bin. Check yours. Set up your compost or worm bin to keep these nutrients from landfill where they harm (creating methane, a toxic gas)  + get them into the soil where they heal. (Healthy soil draws more carbon out of the atmosphere.) 3: SOFT PLASTICS. Scrunchable Chip, lollie + cereal packets go to the supermarket soft plastics bin to get made into new things! Drop at Redcycle bin at selected supermarkets. redcycle.net.au 4: LANDFILL  - Aim for this bad-boy to be your smallest bin. It's the stuff we can't reuse (polystyrene, broken crockery, ceramics, pyrex used tissues, nappies, wipes) TIPS: - “It's only one straw!" said 8 billion people…everything counts. - Avoid single use packaging. Remember your reusable bag, coffee cup, water bottle. - Make it easy with 4 separate, clearly labeled bins (as above.) - Keep recycling loose. Never bagged. - Textiles in good condition go to charity, repurpose OR landfill. - Flatten cardboard to maximise space. - Food + liquids contaminate other stuff in the bin. Empty containers first. - E-waste (electrical + batteries) start fires! (Check council, Officeworks or supermarket for drop-offs.) - Look for packaging that's recyclable, reusable or compostable; PS: If in doubt, leave it out. When summer rolls around, it’s nearly impossible for Ben to get a decent night’s sleep in his rental. Despite fans, closing blinds and blackout curtains, the temperature in Ben’s home get to a sweltering 30 degrees in summer. We need better regulations for safer, more comfortable living conditions for renters. Until then, Ben shares some free and cheap things renters can do to get some respite from hot summers and cold winters. From draught proofing, black out curtains, TREES, external wall blinds, fans, plastic bubble wrap, see the improvements Ben’s been able to make on a budget. Gas Heating &nbsp;-Make sure the boot is sealed to the floorboards. - Regularly check underfloor heating ducts are secured to each outlet. &nbsp;They often come loose, fall off or leak badly, creating cold homes and high bills. 2. Glass windows. * Winter: Treat with bubble wrap / heavy drapes / hanging doonas / install invisible pelmets. * Summer: &nbsp;use Renshade with Velcro dots. &nbsp;Remove and take at end of lease. &nbsp;Hugely effective. 3. Outside paving... use pot plants to stop reflected heat bouncing into the home. 4. Block sunlight from striking the home... suspend blinds and bamboo rollers from eaves. 5. Door draughts... door snakes can be a trip hazard and only stay in place when you put them there. &nbsp; When you leave the house the door snake gets pushed out by the opening door and is not put back after you leave. &nbsp;So your house is leaking &nbsp;ALL the time you are out. Install a good quality “draught excluder” around $25 and a door perimeter seal (for sides and top of door) for $16. 6.
